The 2010 Baja SAE season came to an end last weekend with the Wet World Challenge in Rochester, NY, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology. Before this last competition, the team had traveled to Greenville, South Carolina in April and Bellingham, Washington in May, making them one of only ten teams that competed in all three races of the Baja SAE North American Series. The team excelled at the static and dynamic portion of all three competitions and were always in the top 15 coming into the endurance event. Unfortunately, crippling drive train failures during the four-hour endurance race at Carolina and Washington led to a middle-of-the-pack overall finish for each race. For the last race, in addition to strengthening key components, the team fabricated a flotation device and rear wheel fenders that allowed the car to traverse open water. At the final event, the World Challenge, the team ended strong with a sixth place finish in the endurance race propelling them to eighth overall out of 89 registered teams. Complete competition results for all three competitions can be found
here. We would like to thank all of our
sponsors and alumni whose continued support made such a great season possible. Thank you and Go State!

On February 20, the team traveled to Houghton, Michigan to compete in the Winter Baja Invitational. The event consisted of some 15 teams, 40 cars and four hours of endurance racing on an ice and snow track in the town of Lake Linden. State Baja racing made quite a showing, bringing four cars along with 15 members with two cars making it the entire race. The 2009 vehicle, "Willy," finished 14th despite a driveshaft issue that left the four-wheel-drive inoperative. One of our oldest cars, "Turtle", finished in 6th place, just a handful of laps behind the winner. Keep an eye out for updates as we near completion of the 2010 vehicle and begin the SAE competition series!
